Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni's expected reelection is set to trigger unrest, but a heavy-handed government crackdown will likely restore order within weeks, which would enable Museveni to resume his focus on advancing infrastructure projects and managing rising intra-elite tensions. On Jan. 15, Uganda will hold general elections to choose both its president and the 519 voting members of its parliament. The incumbent, 81-year-old President Museveni of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), is seeking a seventh term against a field of seven other presidential candidates.
