Evan Rees was an Asia-Pacific Analyst at Stratfor. He specializes in Southeast Asia. His expertise includes relations between great powers and peripheral states, informal and black market economies as well as low-end manufacturing. He has also done extensive work on fisheries management and conflict in the South China Sea. Mr. Rees has appeared on CNBC Asia and been interviewed by numerous other media outlets.
Mr. Rees holds a degree in history from Cornell University with a focus on colonial relations between Europe and the Global South. He lived and worked on the Thailand-Myanmar border doing relief and development projects in insurgent-controlled zones. Mr. Rees also worked in northern Sri Lanka assisting with refugee resettlement after the fall of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. He has a basic comprehension of the Myanmar language and a working knowledge of Spanish.
